Australian Bodybuilding Information

Now that you have made the choice to get into Australian body building you need to start thinking like a pro. This means getting involved in all aspects of Australian body building from beginning to end.

You might want to start with going to a good gym and talking to some of the best Australian body building trainers, such as the guys at Northern Exposure Personal Training in Melbourne. They offer a complete package for bodybuilding contest preparation that includes training advice, dieting information, posing help, choreography, and music. (You can find them here http://www.nept.com.au/index.shtml)

Contest preparation is important, but so is understanding what judges look for when ranking Australian bodybuilders. The World Natural Sports Organisation - Australasian Natural Bodybuilding (WNSO-ANB) offers a guideline here on the elements of a natural physique - http://www.anb.com.au/rules.cfm

online australian bodybuilding informationThey list the following qualities as important:

  • Muscle mass - This varies according to the class being judged, and whether it is a male or female Australian bodybuilding competition. But within each class, comparisons are made and more developed muscularity is preferred.

  • Separation - This is the delineation between the muscle groups, and if you have excess fat under the skin it reduces the appearance of this quality, making the muscle look smooth. This is why bodybuilders go to such lengths to reduce their BMI before a bodybuilding competition. Too much smooth muscle, no matter how much muscle mass, won't see you go far in an Australian bodybuilding competition.

  • Definition - This refers to what is commonly termed 'ripped'. It involves the display of individual muscles and muscle fibres. To score well here, there has to be a balance between muscle mass and definition. If you go too far in the direction of definition to the point of emaciation, you will lose muscle mass and so wouldn't score as well as a fellow Australian bodybuilder with good muscle mass and definition.

  • Symmetry - This is mostly determined by genes, which is fortunate or unfortunate depending on how you were blessed. The preferred shape is wide shoulders, narrow hips, a waist that is trim and a deep ribcage.

  • Proportion - This relates to the way each of the body parts are developed. The upper and lower body should complement each other, not be overdeveloped in one area in relation to the others. This includes right and left sides, and the way muscle groups next to each other harmonies.

It takes mental discipline, determination, and a consistent training schedule to do well in Australian bodybuilding. The WNSO-ANB is affiliated with the World Natural Sports Organization, and have a great deal of information on their website about Australian bodybuilding, including competition schedules, and tips on competition presentation.
