Inexpensive Cough Home Remedies

Both food and herbs make excellent cough home remedies. Perhaps one of the best is UMF certified manuka honey.

Honey has long been considered to have therapeutic properties in traditional cultures. And whilst this is true, not all honey is created equal.

Manuka honey, produced in New Zealand, has been proven effective against a range of bacteria, including golden staph. Whilst it is most effective as a topical agent for wound healing and infections, I have found it beneficial for sore throats and coughs.

The argument against manuka honey's effectiveness for internal conditions relates to it being diluted in the stomach. And the research has tended to concentrate on using manuka honey for external things, like recovery from surgery, leg ulcers, and other skin infections.

However, I have personally found it effective as a cough home remedy. I took 1 teaspoon of active manuka honey up, quite frequently in the initial stages when my cough was bad. And it definitely helped.

It's important to get UMF certififed active manuka honey. Not all manuka honey is an active antibacterial.

  • apricot seed, kumquat, mandarin orange, tangerine (although fresh tangerine is not recommended for people with a cough from a common cold, and tangerine peel is not reccommended for people with a dry cough), thyme

  • slice 2 snow pears into small pieces. Add 3 bowels of water and boil until the water has reduced to 2 bowels. Strain and discard the pears, and add 30 grams of rice to the liquid. Boil again until rice is cooked. Drink the soup.

  • Peel 50 grams fresh ginger and cut into small slices. Boil the slices with 100 grams maltose in 2 glasses water for 30 minutes. Drink it hot, twice a day, in one day.

  • boil 20 red dates with 60 grams maltose in enough water. Eat once a day.

  • mix 5 fresh pitted olives and rock sugar; steam them for half an hour. Eat the olives to help with chronic coughs.

  • to relieve coughs with a yellowish mucous discharge, steam 2 unpeeled tangerines with 30 grams rock sugar. Eat the tangerines at bedtime.

With these food cough home remedies, its best to get the ingredients specified, as they are chosen for their energetic qualities, not whether they are sweet or have vitamin x, y or z, for example.

With the exception of American ginseng, do not take ginseng if you have a cough.
