For decades, scientists were puzzled that the French consumed high fat diets but yet had low rates of cardiovascular disease. The answer was found to lie in their high consumption of red wine. Red wine contains Resveratrol, which is known to have a beneficial to health impact.

Trials are under way that may demonstrate that Resveratrol may impact diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Another study demonstrated that high doses of Resveratrol allowed mice to avoid the health problems that are usually associated with obesity.

One study pointed out that mice that were fed Resveratrol showed less weight gain, better insulin sensitivity and a higher physical endurance. It has demonstrated the ability to increase the lifespan of some fish, mice and yeast.
